Gay Christian author Dr Keith Sharpe will argue that the Gospel of John presents a picture of the homoerotic bond between Jesus and the Beloved Disciple which nowadays would be regarded as a gay relationship. He will refer to evidence reported in his new book, ‘The Gay Gospels’, and lead a discussion on its central claim that the Bible affirms God’s love for all LGBT people.
Dr Sharpe believes that Christian homophobia is based on ideology not theology. His book was written to equip LGBT people to defend and assert themselves in the face of ongoing attacks from Christian leaders, and as such is relevant to the whole LGBT community.
The former British Government Minister for Culture and Media, Ben Bradshaw MP, has written: ‘everybody involved in the debate over the place of gay people should read this book. It is a faith- and life-affirming book for the LGBT community, it is a terrific read and I recommend it wholeheartedly’.
