Holocaust Memorial Day - Stand Up To Hatred
08/01/2009
Renfrewshire has been chosen to host the Scottish National Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27 2009. This commemoration is a key moral and ethical event in Scotland's culture, serving to remind people of the need to stand up to hatred and intolerance and embrace diversity.
Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is the international day of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust and of other genocides.
The day is used to commemorate victims, honour survivors and commit to tackling prejudice, discrimination and racism in the present day.
HMD is marked each year on 27 January - the anniversary of the date of the liberation of Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
