The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Youth and Student Organisation (IGLYO) sends message of support to LGBT History Month Scotland
01/02/2010

We know that the histories of LGBTQ young people can often be hidden due to the stigma and attitudes that exist about LGBTQ identities and for this reason, we are proud to support the work LGBT Youth Scotland in coordinating LGBT History Month in Scotland.  History Month allows individuals, organisations, activists and communities to celebrate and value the contribution LGBTQ people have made to the history of Scottish culture; it also allows LGBTQ young people to see positive and relevant portrayals of LGBTQ people in their own communities, something that is so often missing for many of the young people within our network.

Many LGBTQ youth activists and supporters have contributed to the rich history of IGLYO and we know how valuable taking time to stop and celebrate this input can be.  Last year, IGLYO celebrated it’s 25th anniversary and acknowledged that activists who dedicated enormous amounts of time and capacities to change circumstances for LGBTQ young people often go unnoticed.  This is why IGLYO have launched their ‘IGLYO Memories’ website, where you can find out about our history, the people, organisations and events that got us to where we are now, you can check out our website at www.iglyo.com

We wish Scotland and LGBT Youth Scotland a happy, busy and fulfilling History Month 2010 and look forward to taking part in as many events as allows!
