To celebrate LGBT+ History Month 2019, Edinburgh University Students' Association's LGBT+ Campaign, with the support of the University of Edinburgh's Principal, are honoured to be hosting a guest lecture by Nigerian gay rights & HIV activist Bisi Alimi.
Bisi made history in 2004 when he became the first gay Nigerian man to come out live on national television. After receiving death threats as a result of his sexuality, Alimi was forced to seek asylum in the UK, where he has continued to use his platform to advocate for causes close to his heart.
He'll be speaking with us about his own experiences, his activism, and his hopes for the future. Following his lecture, there will be a facilitated Q&A session.
We will be collecting donations on the night for a local LGBT+ charity.
