Open-to-all Kiki at Dance Base

Calling all QTIPOC and LGBTQ people of all ages!

In celebration of LGBT History Month and Dance Base becoming the first Scottish arts organisation to be awarded LGBT Youth Scotland's LGBT Silver Charter Mark, the Scottish chapter of Kiki House of Tea will host a special open-to-all practice Kiki event.

No experience is needed. It doesn’t matter if you’ve attended a practice or a ball before, if you’re a secret bedroom voguer, or a force on the runway; if you want to learn about the kiki scene in Scotland and experience a taste of a vogue ball, this is for you!

There will be open practice time, just like the monthly open-to-all practices held at Dance Base, before we set up to have a Kiki – a bit like a ball, but just for fun!

We’ll have local DJs Sarra Wild and Fran.K Tea, commentator Prince Candy Elijah Tea on the mic, and sitting on the panel; Bronze Old Navy (Prodigy), Cai Tea (Revlon) and Bam Bam Mulan (007).

If you’re totally new to the ballroom and kiki scene and just want to learn what it’s all about, we want you to come in your favourite outfit, form a supportive audience, chant along and have loads of fun!

If you have a little more experience and you’ve been practising your elements, and feel you want to try walking a ball in an informal, supportive environment, we want you to come along with an outfit that makes you feel like a force to be reckoned with!

We’ll cover any categories that people would like to walk, and all categories are open to everyone, including Fashion, Realness and Performance (Voguing) categories.

The event is open to all, meaning it’s an inclusive and welcoming space for everyone, even if you’ve never been to a practice or ball before. This is a safe, no-pressure space for people of all backgrounds and experience, disabled and non-disabled. We want you to discover Ballroom, discover yourself, and most importantly, have loads of fun!!
