We Have Rather Been Invaded, 2017/18
Ed Webb-Ingall
Running time 39 minutes, 35 seconds
Subtitled
11 January–7 February 2019

GoMA will have a continuous run of We Have Rather Been Invaded as part of the queer times school prints exhibition. We welcome all LGBTQ+ people and allies to come and watch this wonderful film about Section 28, a crucial part of LGBT history.

Visitors are also welcome to take one of a free limited We Have Rather Been Invaded poster run of 1500

We Have Rather Been Invaded draws on community video methodologies from the 1970s and 1980s to look at the impact and legacy of Section 28 and the direct action protests that preceded it, including the ‘lesbian invasion’ of a live broadcast of the BBC Six O’Clock News in 1988. The video shows a roundtable discussion with activists and educators interspersed with archival materials and examines the role of activism and our understanding of this piece of legislation that prohibited local authorities and state schools in the UK from promoting homosexuality.
