Zines are self-published, DIY, booklets, pamphlets or magazines. They have been made by lots of different people, on lots of different topics, but they are often made by people who don't see themselves represented in mainstream media to share their experiences and knowledge, and record their history. This relaxed and creative workshop is an opportunity to explore the Edinburgh Zine Library's collection of zines, and have a go making your own. Zines are imperfect, so don't worry if you don't think of yourself as creative or artistic. The theme of this year's LGBT+ History Month is 'Politics in Art' and we'll have a load of prompts around this theme, or you can choose your own topic. For more information about Edinburgh Zine Library and to see some of the zines in our collection, head to www.edinburghzinelibrary.com or find us on social media @edinburghzinelibrary (instagram) and @edzinelibrary (twitter). If you have any access questions about the workshop itself, or you want to come but you're nervous, feel free to get in touch with us at edinburghzinelibrary@gmail.com
Currie Library wants to ensure our events are as safe as possible. Please note we will be asking all participants to remain masked unless exempt, and that some windows will be open to aid air flow- so you may want to wear something a little warmer. We will be ensuring social distancing is maintained between groups, and would encourage participants to take a lateral flow test before they attend.
